PROTOCOL OF THE MOBILIZINGWORKSHOP: G8 + MIGRATION (BUKO29, 27. of May)

hello,

here you got the protocol of the mobilizingworkshop: „G8 and
migration“ at the BUKO 29 at Sat, 27th of May. If any group/individual cannot find itself in the positions we ask for remarks as well as completion.

The protocol is seperated into different parts:

1. input
2. brainstorming/ remarks/ results of the small working groups
3.

In the attachment you will find the call „Erster Aufruf zu einer Großaktion unter dem Motto ‚Für globale Bewegungsfreiheit’ und ‚Gleiche Rechte für Alle’ (‚freedom of movement’ and ‚equal rights’) im Rahmen der Mobilisierung gegen den G8-Gipfel 2007 in Deutschland“ for a broader announcement of the mobilization.

Approx. 100 persons participated in the workshop.

1. Input
1.1.: Experiences of Genua, Evian, Glasgow (Gleneagles)
1.1.1 Genua:
- big demonstration with about 60.000 peoples 1 day in advance of the summit
- evaluation:
> militant + forceful, good involvement of migrants also in organisation, good preparation concerning protection/security
> stengthening of the movement AntiRa + migration
-> involvement of the topic in the GSF
-> Genua was an important step towards a "networking international"
slogan: freedom of movement

1.1.2 Evian:
- demonstration in advance of the summit with about 4.000 peoples
- evaluation:
- policy/politics of migrationregime(s) on the agenda and connected to politics of WTO, IOM, WiPO
- decidedness and militancy were there
- migrants where less involved (as in Genua)
slogan: freedom of movement - free communication

1.1.3 Glasgow (Gleneagles):
- citywalks at/from the summit-East 3 days in advance of it with about 500
people, in part acting in small groups
- evaluation:
- actions were hardly visible, few or no migrants involved, some "noborder" groups founded
slogan: make borders history

1.2. international framework
On the Socialforums, on the World-SF (Bamako 06, Gathering of european and african networks which work on migrationpolitics) as well as on the European-SF in Athens the topic ‚migration’ were a focus point. On the Agenda of the upcoming WSF in Nairobi it also should be made a priority axis of the agenda. This can fit to the mobilization against the G8-summit. In Athens a Global Action Day was decided, which will take place on the 7th of october (anniversary of the occurences of Ceuta and Melilla). There’s ideas to do an europewide action in Brussels before the mobilization against the G8.

1.3. local/ regional framework
Untill now there’s the idea of organizing a large-scale Actionday/Demontration before the summit like in Genua. This would be, depending on the official timetable (G8: from 8th.-10th of June)

Thursday, 7th of June 2007.

It’s a public holidays day in some of the german federal states which can be seen as an advantage. A powerful and meaningful demonstration would be a good possibility to bring our concern to the public. If we want to achieve a 10.000 people being mobilized, not only
the european networks have to be mobilized but particularty the local and regional groups and antirassist network in Germany.

2. brainstorming/ remarks/ results of the small working groups
- there was a tendency to approve the idea of a demonstration in Rostock on 06/07/06
> in parts, the date, place and the central form of the action were questioned
> besides the demo, further planning of small actions were desired

- Internationalisation of the refugees-movement was seen as a good goal
> therefor the mobilization of the sans-papier is important

- an early set-up of a solidarity-fonds is important
> for support of travel costs and help against measures of oppression

- the integration of Attac/ unions is important

- the orientation (untill now) in terms of content follows the motto: Equal rights / Freedom of movement

- from the side of the refugees-organisations the significance of the actionday is critically discussed; there’s a certain need of clarification

- a good embedding of the action day / and good accord with the entire mobilization makes much sense

- a brief collection of compementary statements:
> Rostock makes sense because peoples from summitprotests have the
possibility to participate.
> de-central actions cover a lot of places. but is mobilization possible?
don't know. central makes more sense (Rostock). access to central action
is easier for unorganized peoples.
> care for the culture. watch different structures, i.e.: AWO, refugees,
workingmigrants
> probs: 'compulsory residence' ('Residenzpflicht') /repression.
organizing/help.
> speakers-corner in Rostock
> info: connection of migration + G8
> "we are here because you destroy our lands!". worry: conflict with other
groups costs much energy. rather concentrate on the mobilization. who's
left anyway for the 10.000? example for int. involvement: "sans-papiers"
from France.
> what do we expect from the demonstration? How do we see ourselves (as
migrants) in it? can identify us only when the daily problems are a topic
(too). movement must be internationalized, not only on the G8 states.
Demand: "We are here because...!". want to be more than peoples who just
go on a demonstration.
--> so: connect different groups (attac/nolager etc.) + canalize strength.
wish: broad resistancemovement in other lands (mainly development
countries).
> involvement of other spectra (anti-atom, antifa etc.)
> connection of content with happenings in the past (i.e. Togo)
> connecting with other resistance, say: security, anti-atom, antifa, etc.
> attempt not only to work on one event but also/especially to try to build
up new, lasting structures (esp. in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).
